Old Dogs

Kitchen & Bath Business does a little humorous reporting on Rapsel’s recent, cinematic display: Matteo Thun’s Lavasca bath and Pluvaie shower are featured prominently in the soon-to-be-released film Old Dogs, with John Travolta, Robin Williams, Seth Green, and Matt Dillon. Check out the Lavasca, behind Robin Williams, in the still to the right.

Want to add some Hollywood glamour to your home? Live like the stars? OK, this one is just for fun.

Rapsel, the luxury bath company based in Milan, Italy, recently announced the inclusion of its products—the Lavasca bathtub and Pluviae shower—in a new Disney feature film called Old Dogs. The film stars Robin Williams, John Travolta, Matt Dillon, Seth Greenberg and Kelly Preston. Both contemporary products were created for Rapsel by famed architect and designer Matteo Thun.

Lavasca is an award-winning design and was inducted this year into the permanent collection at The Philadelphia Museum of Art. According to the company, Lavasca, made of titanic resin, is the lightest bathtub in the world, weighing in at less than 100 pounds. The film features the model in a polished white finish; the tub is also made in black matte resin and Portuguese limestone.

Avant

The other day we told you about the Avant Gallery’s beautiful collection of Rapsel, and today owner Dmitry Prut sent us some interior photos:

In the photo are Rapsel curated products the ARNE bath by Soda, the VISTA mirror by Marco Piva, the COBRA shower by Adri Hazebroek, and the VISION washbasin by Nespoli E Novara.

Miami Modernism

Decorati’s Karin Edwards takes note of Rapsel’s designs at its exclusive Miami showroom, Avant Gallery:

“Indeed, “MiMo” (short for Miami Modernism) reverberates in a variety of ways. At Avant Gallery, we spied this tub by Rapsel whose sleek organic shape also recalls a classic, cozy wingchair . Called Arne, its high back is an homage to Arne Jacobsen’s legendary Egg Chair. Finished in an impeccably smooth, matte titanic resin, it was so alluring I actually slipped off my shoes to try it out. “

The Avant Gallery is a 5,000 square foot space in Miami that serves as Rapsel’s exclusive showroom for the Miami area. Carryinga number of Rapsel products, including the Vision washbasin, Cobra shower, and Lavasca mini bath from Matteo Thun, Avant Gallery is a curated space with some of Rapsel’s most innovative, dynamic products.

Il Bagno Che Non C’e

Architectural Products took notice of the ONE Collection, or “Il Bagno Che Non C’e”, in the latest issue of their publication. The Matteo Thun designed collection for Rapsel had its American debut at ICFF in May. The concept is entirely new and innovative to the design community and represents Matteo Thun’s ideals about design environments, as apparent in the Q&A we conducted with Thun last week for the blog, and Rapsel’s commitment to new, luxurious design.

SODA

SODA Designers are at the very cutting edge of design, crossing epochs and genres to bring design that is absolutely the most current. Its contemporary not because it leaves the past behind, but rather that because it incorporates design history into a brand new context. For Rapsel, that blend of tradition and trailblazing is the epitome of modernity. Take, for instance, the ARNE bath that SODA has designed exclusively for Rapsel. SODA reimagines the comfort and clean lines of a mid-century furniture icon into the bath setting. Why shouldn’t a bath be as comfortable and inviting as a plush chair? This simple ingenuity matches Rapsel’s design aesthetic perfectly.

SODA is the husband and wife pair Nada Nasrallah & Christian Horner. Based in Vienna, Austria, the duo has worked across medium and style to build an eclectic but comprehensive design resume. Their past work with Rapsel, TAVOLINO limited edition portable newspaper-rack with integrated table, expressed an understanding of function and utilitarianism that is too often missing from design. Their other clients, like MDF Italia, Ligne-Roset, and WITTMANN, reinforce their impressive reputation. The ARNE bath is available at AF NY.
