Arts & Crafts

Rapsel is known for cutting edge design, but that doesn’t mean looking to the past is out of the question. In fact, Rapsel often incorporates history into it’s designs, like the mid-century modern appeal of Arne Jacobsen in our ARNE bathtub. One of Rapsel’s collections, though, reaches back a little farther: the Tang Dynasty of China (A.D. 618 – 917). The “Viaggio Verso l’Oriente’ collection by NITO features artists and craftsmen from present-day China blending modern techniques with creative artistry used in manufacturing ceramics:

Avant

The other day we told you about the Avant Gallery’s beautiful collection of Rapsel, and today owner Dmitry Prut sent us some interior photos:

In the photo are Rapsel curated products the ARNE bath by Soda, the VISTA mirror by Marco Piva, the COBRA shower by Adri Hazebroek, and the VISION washbasin by Nespoli E Novara.

SODA

RAPSEL, the innovative luxury sanitary company based in Milan, happily celebrates a win for the ARNE bath, a design by husband and wife design duo SODA for Rapsel. The ARNE has won the 2009 ADOLF LOOS STAATSPREIS for best product in Austria, one of the most coveted design awards in Europe. An exhibition and catalog in Vienna will follow in the Fall. This competition takes place every 2 years only and seen as a national design prize in Austria.

SODA & RAPSEL

SODA is husband and wife duo Nada Nasrallah & Christian Horner. Based in Austria, the ARNE bathtub is their second collaboration with Rapsel. The duo has worked across medium and style to build an eclectic but comprehensive design resume. Their past work with Rapsel, TAVOLINO limited edition portable newspaper-rack with integrated table, expressed an understanding of function and utilitarianism that is too often missing from design. Their other clients, like MDF Italia, Ligne-Roset, and WITTMANN, reinforce their impressive reputation..

Welcome to Miami

The Avant Gallery (3850 N. Miami Avenue) in Miami’s luxury Design District is the exclusive Florida showroom for Rapsel, a fact that’s beautifully anounced in this month’s HOME Miami. A new advertisement for Avant’s collection of Rapsel pieces will run in the August/September issue. The ad features Rapsel classics like the Cobra shower head, the Arne bath, and the Vision washbasin. They are some of Rapsel’s most popular and innovative pieces and they are works that have been included in what design writers like Karin Edwards are now calling “Miami Modernism”.
The Avant Gallery is one of Miami’s leading art and design showrooms, or, as owner Dmitry Prut says, “an evolving collection of extraordinary objets d’art”. The 5,000 square foot space is home not just to Rapsel, but many of the world’s most important designers. Dmitry visited Rapsel’s booth at the 2009 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) and was pleased to celebrate our choice as the Editors Award from an expert group of editors in the “Bath” category. Rapsel always collaborates with the best (Philippe Starck, Andrée Putman, Matteo Thun, to name a few), and we’re pleased to include Dmitry Prut and the Avant Gallery amongst those we consider family.

Miami Modernism

Decorati’s Karin Edwards takes note of Rapsel’s designs at its exclusive Miami showroom, Avant Gallery:

“Indeed, “MiMo” (short for Miami Modernism) reverberates in a variety of ways. At Avant Gallery, we spied this tub by Rapsel whose sleek organic shape also recalls a classic, cozy wingchair . Called Arne, its high back is an homage to Arne Jacobsen’s legendary Egg Chair. Finished in an impeccably smooth, matte titanic resin, it was so alluring I actually slipped off my shoes to try it out. “

The Avant Gallery is a 5,000 square foot space in Miami that serves as Rapsel’s exclusive showroom for the Miami area. Carryinga number of Rapsel products, including the Vision washbasin, Cobra shower, and Lavasca mini bath from Matteo Thun, Avant Gallery is a curated space with some of Rapsel’s most innovative, dynamic products.

SODA

SODA Designers are at the very cutting edge of design, crossing epochs and genres to bring design that is absolutely the most current. Its contemporary not because it leaves the past behind, but rather that because it incorporates design history into a brand new context. For Rapsel, that blend of tradition and trailblazing is the epitome of modernity. Take, for instance, the ARNE bath that SODA has designed exclusively for Rapsel. SODA reimagines the comfort and clean lines of a mid-century furniture icon into the bath setting. Why shouldn’t a bath be as comfortable and inviting as a plush chair? This simple ingenuity matches Rapsel’s design aesthetic perfectly.
