With Rapsel’s exhibit in the Abitare Il Tempo show less than a month away, it’s time to began packing our bags and planning our Italian adventures. Abitare Il Tempo is in the riverside city of Verona (famous as being the setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet), a two hour train ride away from one of the most provocative, interesting art installations in the world. In canals in and around Venice and Grado is Swoon, a Brooklyn-based artist floating the ancient canals of Italy on boats she calls the Swimming Cities of Serenissima, mashed up rafts with old car engines and salvaged materials. Her work is a far cry from sleek Rapsel fixtures, but we suggest seeing both, and relishing the great, weird variety that is modern design.
